52% : It is hard not to discuss a Taiwanese presidential election without mentioning China, as Taiwan's relationship with its powerful neighbour filters down through many key election concerns like the economy, affordable housing, renewable energy and military spending.
48% : Taiwanese lived under martial law until 1987, with political, economic and social preference given to the families of those who had fled China with the KMT, rather than the established population descended from Hakka and Hokkien Chinese settlers or Indigenous Taiwanese.
