Biasly

Biasly is a [[Utah]]-based agency founded in 2017 and most prominently known for its [[patent | patented]] “Bias Meter” which aims to detect [[media bias | bias in news]] articles. Biasly also acts as a [[news aggregator]], supplying articles with differently assessed bias levels on popular topics.

Overview

Users can browse aggregated news articles on the home page of the website, Aggregated articles are also accessible in a “Side by Side” format. Articles covering a single topic are grouped based on their rated bias levels. The site displays topics based on popularity, subsequently providing multiple articles it deems to hold different biases. Bias is determined by analysts, in addition to an [[AI algorithm]].

Articles, news sources, journalists, and politicians are all assessed on a spectrum from “Extremely [[conservatism | Conservative]]” to “Extremely [[liberalism | Liberal]]” with a “Center” rating signifying neutrality in bias. Subscribers have access to “Advanced sentiment data” that provides additional context to the bias ratings of an article. Biasly also evaluates the “Reliability” of articles and news outlets, gauging the trustworthiness of the information they present using [[artificial intelligence]]. Ratings for reliability vary from “Poor” to “Excellent”. Furthermore, Biasly assesses politicians based on their general and policy-specific leanings.

Biasly exists in a competitive field of media bias rating agencies and news aggregators such as [[Media Bias/Fact Check]].  Biasly is unique in the space as it provides a real-time “Bias-Meter” rating on articles, analyzing policy stances, politician portrayal, political terms, and bias. It also supplies a reliability analysis on articles, including source and quote analysis.

The Bialsy News Check [[Chrome extension]] delivers “Bias” and “Reliability” ratings for news articles online. This online bias checker allows users to assess and calculate real-time bias ratings for articles and news publications as internet users browse online.

Biasly’s Media Bias Chart displays different news outlets’ biases in a more visually appealing format, where the news agency’s logo is shown rather than its name. Additionally, the chart is interactive, as users can click on their desired source and visit their page. The bias for publications is charted on a spectrum from “Extremely Liberal” to “Extremely Conservative.”

Biasly also offers a [[media literacy]] education platform for educators and students, using Biasly’s rating methodologies and AI algorithms to learn about media bias in real-time.
