Conservative podcasts, simply put, are podcasts that lean conservative, meaning it talks about conservative issues and ideas, or issues and ideas that are spoken about in a conservative way. The most popular conservative podcasts are ones that are well-structured, have notable people like Ben Shapiro or Tucker Carlson, and/or have out-of-the-box ideas that attract attention and clicks. Donald Trump used populist ideas outside of the typical Republican norm (such as Bush and Romney) to great effect back in 2016 during the presidential election, using them to expand his rural margins and win states that Republicans previously have lost in such as Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania, those upper Midwest states. Some Republican groups are “classical liberals” and “MAGA enthusiasts.”
Classical liberals tend to be old-guard Republicans, meaning Republicans who came before Trump. They emphasized several tenets of classical liberalism, such as being a free market and laissez faire economics advocate (a hands off approach basically) and for civil liberties such as limited federal government (proponents of federalism), autonomy, economic and political freedom, and 1st amendment rights such as freedom of speech. These people are characterized as being fiscally conservative but can vary socially, either moderate or conservative usually.
MAGA enthusiasts is a much more familiar term to people, since it is commonly associated with the ideas of former Republican President Donald Trump. They commonly include being tough on illegal immigration (and various forms of legal immigration) and the southern border with Mexico, usually resulting in cries of building a border wall. There’s a streak of economic populism where, to counteract the increasing loss of US manufacturing going abroad, cries of bringing back manufacturing here by becoming more isolationists, both economically and militarily, and cutting and remaking trade deals like NAFTA and TPP.
It includes being distrustful of American institutions, mainly based in Washington, especially if Trump loses (election/voter fraud after Trump lost the 2020 election) and/or gets in trouble (alleged witch hunt by the FBI and the justice system). It also includes “energy independence,” which basically means letting the free-market determine what is best: fossil fuels or alternative energies like nuclear, solar, and wind. Despite efforts from never Trumpers, Trump’s ideas still remain popular among the Republican base.
