Then again, governments have a large number of other expenses, like infrastructure, defense, education, etc., so it may just come down to how much a government can fund or is willing to fund. I do think art being funded is beneficial for the people. But maybe it should not be a priority in certain nations because there are more concerning issues at hand.
No, culture is the endeavor of private individuals. Moreover, modern art is quite frankly, ugly. It fails to capture the beauty of earlier greco-roman art and other works.

By having the government fund it, that makes them entitled to any changes that can and may be made, which goes against what art is. I know this may sound preachy, but the best art in New York was made great because of the artists’ instincts. So I don’t think, even as Cultural Investment, Public Art should be funded by the Government. Read Less
