Who decides what "unethical practices" are, and by extension, who chooses those that deserve protection versus those that are to be punished? Protecting whistleblowers would become a threat to our national security and would encourage certain individuals to divulge state secrets with a decreased threat of punishment. Overall, I think this idea is too subjective to be treated appropriately.  Less

It should be up to the discretion of the government regarding the significance of the information.  Less

Essentially anyone could leak sensitive information and claim they thought the action was unethical.  Less

Yes, constituents deserve transparency in their government, and the more protections that are available for whistleblowers, the more this will be achieved.

How could one not think whistleblowers deserve additional protections? The recent case with Boeing demonstrates the value of whistleblowers- they deserve protection due to their service to the public.

Although it should be a given that they are protected from those they are trying to expose, it seems unlikely that this protection can be meaningful simply using legal mechanisms. There may need to be more work down to protect whistleblowers and freedom of speech.  Less
