Hudson Valley One was founded in 2020 by Geddy Sveikauskas, a veteran journalist and publisher in the Hudson Valley region. The idea for Hudson Valley One came from the need to consolidate and strengthen local journalism in the area, particularly in the face of challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Sveikauskas, who had previously founded and operated several local newspapers in the region, decided to merge these publications into a single, more robust news outlet. Today, Hudson Valley One is owned and operated by Ulster Publishing, a local media company that Sveikauskas established decades earlier. Based in Kingston, New York, Hudson Valley One covers a wide range of local news topics relevant to the Hudson Valley region. The publication focuses on local politics, community events, arts and culture, environmental issues, and business news. They also report on local sports, particularly high school and college teams in the area. Hudson Valley One provides in-depth coverage of town and county government proceedings, as well as features on local personalities and businesses. While primarily focused on Ulster County and its surroundings, the publication also covers broader regional issues that affect the Hudson Valley area. One interesting fact: A unique aspect of Hudson Valley One is its origin as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The publication was born out of the merger of four long-standing local weekly newspapers: New Paltz Times, Saugerties Times, Woodstock Times, and Kingston Times. This consolidation was a strategic move to ensure the survival of local journalism in the region during a challenging time for print media. By combining resources and readership, Hudson Valley One managed to preserve and continue the legacy of these community newspapers, some of which had been in circulation for over 45 years.
Hudson Valley One is ranked 29,425 among other media sources and has an average of 125,028 monthly visits according to Similar Web.
