KGUN-TV was founded in 1956 as KDWI-TV, Tucson's third commercial television station. The idea came from D.W. "Doc" Ingram, a Tucson lumber dealer, and his wife Kathleen, who applied for and received a permit to operate the station just 20 days later. In 1957, the station was sold to a new ownership group and took on its current call letters, KGUN-TV, which were chosen to reflect the new owners' interest in gun collecting and Western movies. Today, KGUN-TV is owned by the E.W. Scripps Company, a major media conglomerate.KGUN-TV primarily covers local news, sports, and community events in Tucson and the surrounding areas of southern Arizona. The station is an ABC affiliate and is based in Tucson, with its transmitter located atop Mount Bigelow. KGUN-TV has a long history of serving the Tucson community, including over 30 years of coverage for the Fiesta de los Vaqueros rodeo parade.**One interesting fact**: KGUN-TV was the first local television station in Tucson to air a morning newscast, launching it in 1987. This early move into morning news programming helped establish the station as a leader in local journalism.
KGUN is ranked N/A among other media sources and has an average of 1,033,000 monthly visits according to Similar Web.
