Local 10, formally known as WPLG, was launched in 1957 by John Shepard III, a pioneer in the broadcasting industry and President of the Shepard Broadcasting Service. The station was originally named WPST-TV. In 1969, it was acquired by the Washington Post Company and its name was changed to WPLG as a tribute to Philip L. Graham, the late husband of Katharine Graham, who was then the publisher of the Washington Post. Today, Local 10 is owned by Berkshire Hathaway, the multinational conglomerate headed by Warren Buffett.Local 10 is located in Pembroke Park, Florida, and primarily serves the South Florida area.
