Rep. Brian Mast on “Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan,” Feb. 2, 2025

Why Troubling News:

PolitiFact declared Brian Mast's statement that "10 to 30 cents on the dollar" from U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) funding actually goes to aid as fake news. According to a January 2024 USAID report, 12.1% of the agency’s funds were directly allocated to local organizations in foreign countries. However, this doesn’t mean the remaining 88% isn’t used to help those in need. Most of the remaining funds go to international organizations, including U.S.-based companies, which use the money to deliver food, medicine, and services abroad. Mast’s claim misrepresents how the funds are allocated and used for aid.
